Coaster 2 Coaster: The Utah Cocktail

Today's cocktail is sure to have you falling in love. With both the cocktail, Utah, and Chelsea.

Read on and kick back your heals with the Utah Cocktail.

Salt Lake Summer Savoir

Here in Salt Lake City, we are lucky to have some amazing local distilleries that are producing high-quality, delicious spirits. One of the best, and most highly regarded of those, is Sugar House Distillery, Initially, Sugar House Distillery focused on craft vodka, using fresh water from the Wasatch Mountains, but recently they have released a Gold Rum that is pretty much to die for. This local Gold Rum and my lovely little herb garden were the inspiration for my Utah Cocktail, Heartbeat Nosh's "Salt Lake Summer Savior" (yes, it's a play on all things Utah, if you know what I mean)! Think citrus, mint, sage, and bubbles – it is a summer drink to die for!

What you'll need:

2 ounces Gold Rum (Sugar House Distillery's Gold Rum can be substituted with another dry, gold rum – no coconut rum allowed!)
1 can/bottle of sparkling grapefruit soda
1 dash bitters (I used homemade vanilla lavendar bitters, find more about making your own bitters on my cocktail/food blog HERE>>)
1/2 freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
1/2 freshly squeezed lemon juice
Fresh spearmint
Fresh sage
salt for rim

Method:
In a shaker with ice, add a few leaves of muddled spearmint and 1-2 sage leaves. I muddles the spearmint and left the sage whole.
Add Gold Rum, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and bitters.
Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds.

Salt your coup or cocktail glass with salt and pour.

Finish off your cocktail with a hearty splash of grapefruit soda and garnish with a toothpick of sage, lemon, and mint.

Cheers and enjoy the summer air!

Thanks to 5 O'Clock Fashionistas for letting me create a SLC cocktail for their Coaster 2 Coaster feature (such a brilliant idea)! If you want to check out more of my cocktail recipes you can find me at HeartbeatNosh.com | Cocktail Club
